The Next Generation Aerolite Spitfire
Britain’s most iconic brand, the Supermarine Spitfire, is to go back into production, and the skies. We revealed the re-imagined aircraft for the first time at Bodmin Airfield in May 2026 to a storm of national and international media interest.

The next generation Aerolite Spitfire will deliver private fliers’ Spitfire ambition sustainably and accessibly, stay true to its lineage’s breathtaking agility – and evade today’s hefty price tag for original WWII craft.
Cutting edge innovation from an elite team of aeronautical engineers, designers and pilots has ‘engineered-in’ £ accessibility for the new two-seater aircraft – around £750k against £3.3-5.5m to buy an original (if one can be found).
The team re-visited wartime government plans to replace diminishing supplies of aluminium for Spitfire fuselages with a composite alternative called Gordon Aerolite. Using modern composites, we created the next generation design and named it the “Aerolite Spitfire”.

The Engine: As part of a low-risk development strategy, this Spitfire launches with a certified high-performance powertrain from an established international manufacturer. A lower-cost British-built alternative has also been identified to support future scalability.
Is this the world’s biggest Airfix aircraft? Not only is the Aerolite Spitfire a beautiful addition to the Spitfire family with authentic Spitfire performance – the aircraft will be produced in kit form.
‘Can I own an Aerolite Spitfire if I don’t have the skills to handle the kit build myself?’
Yes. We have an assisted build service to offer clients who are unable to assemble their Aerolite Spitfire aircraft kit themselves.
The aircraft will supplement the ranks of the super-rare original two-seater Spitfire. Its composite construction means there’s no requirement for hangar storage (or hangar fees), as it is weather resistant – again keeping ownership costs low. Worldwide only around 10-12 original 2-seat Spitfires remain operational.
The full-scale concept model for Britain’s best-loved icon, re-envisioned with a significant twist, is touring the UK this spring and summer across up to 10 air shows and military and classic motor festivals with combined event and online audiences reaching around 4m enthusiasts.
The Aerolite Spitfire has been developed by a team of seasoned aviation designers, engineers and pilots, including guidance from an aviation sustainability expert (also a pilot), Bridget Donaldson.
Great British Supermarine Limited conceived the design. CEO Jeremy Meeson explained: “The moment is right to reimagine the Supermarine Spitfire because today’s materials, propulsion, and digital engineering finally let us evolve an icon without losing what made it exceptional.
“Just as the original Spitfire pushed the limits of its time, this one does too. A recreational aircraft designed for pilots and enthusiasts who demand authenticity with real capability, it delivers a flying experience rooted in heritage but engineered for now.
‘We are considering investors for this ambitious once-in-a-generation project. We know the appetite for Spitfire ownership is huge – and that, for most people, the price tag for an original is insurmountable. Our Spitfire, at a fraction of the cost, is an attractive proposition for private aircraft owning consortia. Aerolite anticipates a brisk progress towards full production with significant interest from UK and international buyers and investors.
