Initial market research indicated a viable specialist market, with prospective customers prepared to consider a completed aircraft at a target price of approximately £750,000.
To strengthen the commercial strategy, the team was joined by a highly experienced senior brands and marketing specialist with expertise in positioning, market development and the promotion of a new premium aviation product.
Following advice from business and investment professionals, the decision was taken to construct a full-scale concept aircraft.
Does the Aerolite Spitfire have detachable wings?
Built over approximately eighteen months, it incorporated detachable wings so that it could be transported economically to airshows, exhibitions and promotional events throughout the United Kingdom.
This transformed the concept aircraft into a practical market-validation tool, allowing the team to present the aircraft directly to pilots, enthusiasts and potential customers and to assess public reaction before committing to full prototype development.
What was the response to the Aerolite Spitfire internationally?
The project’s public launch at the Private Flyer airshow at Wycombe Air Park in May 2026 generated a response well beyond expectations.
The story was syndicated internationally, appearing in 47+ major Sunday newspapers and their online platforms worldwide as well as across national radio and television, online media and social platforms.
Within the first four days following the launch, the Aerolite Spitfire’s first appearance attracted more than 377,000 online views on YouTube alone.
The response demonstrated not only the enduring international appeal of the Spitfire, but also significant interest in the idea of a modern aircraft capable of capturing its appearance, character and flying experience.
The Aerolite Spitfire has been built at full scale, exposed to the market and tested in public, generating substantial media attention and audience engagement.
The Next Stage
The immediate objective is to secure the investment required to design, build and prove the airworthy prototype.
Current projections indicate an investment requirement of approximately £5 million, with an estimated two-year prototype construction programme, followed by approximately six months of flight testing before progressing towards the issue of a Permit to Fly.
Successful completion of this phase would provide the foundation for production tooling, an initial manufacturing capacity of up to ten kits per year, and the commercial launch of the Aerolite Spitfire.
A rapid assisted-build programme would enable customers to construct their aircraft with professional support and progress from kit purchase to a fully finished Aerolite Spitfire within a matter of weeks.
The objective is ambitious but straightforward: to make the experience of owning and flying a full-scale Spitfire-inspired aircraft accessible to a new generation of private pilots — combining one of aviation’s most celebrated shapes with the materials, engineering and operating economics of the 21st century.
